Biomechanical gait analysis
Biomechanics is the study of the bodies' reaction to force and movement including the relationship between bones, ligaments and tendons. Analysis of the body is beneficial to understand athletic performance and reduce sport injuries.
Sports injuries include:
- Ankle and foot pain
- Knee pain
- Hip pain
- Achilles tendon injuries
- Calf pain
- Shin splints
Treatment discussion
Gait analysis results are discussed and explained, treatment is discussed and the option of orthotics may be advised. The podiatrist will decide whether you require custom made orthotics and may cast your foot using plaster of paris or using a foam impression box. Basic corrective devices can be supplied if custom-made orthotics are not required. A treatment plan sheet will be provided at the end of the assessment.
Treatment also includes information on stretching, icing, medication, footwear and lifestyle adaptations.
Orthotics
The type of orthotic depends on the amount of control and support your foot requires. Orthotics available range from basic corrective insoles to custom made polypropylene orthotics.
