Advice

Bring the life and sole back to your feet

The foot is made up of 26 bones, which continually changes throughout your life. It is vital to look after your feet to prevent problems developing or becoming worse. Here are some areas you should give some particular attention:

  • Skin—as we age skin becomes dry, inelastic and the protective fatty pad on the soles of our feet shifts and changes making it more prone to develop hard skin, so it is important to moisturise your skin
  • Nails—can become brittle, thickened or discoloured so it is important to check your nails, keep them the right length and wear proper fitting shoes
  • Circulation—to the feet can become diminished especially to the toes. It is very important to check your feet regularly for small cuts as it may take longer for the skin to heal and an increase risk of infection
  • Shoes—make sure your shoe fits perfectly, are the right size, has the right toe box depth and does not have wear and tear on the soles.
